De Pere Youth Basketball Booster Club
Questions and Answers
Q: What is the Basketball Booster Club all
about?
A: To provide opportunities for
children in the De Pere School District to play basketball while supporting the De Pere High School basketball programs.
Q: How did you get your start?
A: In 1994,
a number of concerned parents realized there were not many opportunities for the children of De Pere to learn about the game
of basketball. Other athletic youth groups had organized clubs, but not basketball. Research indicated that many surrounding
communities already had established programs that had been in existence for a number of years.
At the time, other local
high school basketball teams were joining summer leagues. The De Pere teams were not participating because there was no funding
available. The concept was the Booster Club would provide some financial support for the high school teams for summer leagues
and tournaments, if they would assist in the club's youth activities.
Q: How do you raise funds?
A:
We have four major fundraising activities:
1. The Redbird Classic youth basketball tournament
2. Grades 1-2 skills clinics
3. Apparel sales
4. Packer game event at Swan Club (new)
Q: What activities are you providing for the kids
of De Pere?
A: The booster club offers the grades 1 & 2 skills clinics directed by Larry DeCleene. We
also support both the boys and girls high school coaches and the opportunities they have available for children in grades
3-8.
Q: How do you operate? How are decisions made?
A: The Club has a board of directors and is advised by the boys and girls high school basketball coaches.
Q: How can I get involved?
A: The success of the Booster Club ties closely to the amount of
parental involvement. Even if you are not well versed in basketball, there are still plenty of opportunities for you and your
child to get involved. We are always open to new ideas and improvements. Please contact any of the directors to share your
ideas or to learn how to obtain more information about getting involved.
